These young men pictured in the 1896 Battle Creek High School year book represented Battle Creek High School on the baseball diamond. Left to right, top row, they are Coach W.D. Baker, Willard A. Knight, George J. Hamilton and E. Miller; second row, Bert Ellsworth, Ray Blackett, Hubert Russell and Richard Stuart; and in the first row, Leigh M. Turner and Oscar Flanders. The June 30, 1946, edition of the Enquirer and News reported that Knight went on to become a Battle Creek attorney and Flanders an assistant postmaster.
