Description:
This photo, taken before 1920, of Enquirer Evening News paper boys or "newsboys" was published on the cover of the July 16, 2000, Battle Creek Enquirer centennial commemorative section titled "A cause to glorify." The title was a reference to a speech given by former Enquirer owner and publisher A.L. Miller in which he paraphrased the mid-18th century hymn, "A Charge to Keep I Have," by Charles Wesley and Lowell Mason. It wasn't until September 1918 that Miller merged the Morning Enquirer and Evening News, forming the Enquirer and News.
