dc.description The Postum Cereal Band got its start in 1923 — the creation of David Steadman and Archie N. Merchant., and this was among the original if not the original ensembles. It was founded by David L. Steadman, who worked in the Post Cereals Grain Mill from 1916 to 1937, and Archie N. Merchant, head miller of the corn mill from 1918 to 1933, as the Korn Klub band. Later names included Postum Cereal Band and the Post-Carton & Container Band. Mr. Steadman provided the photo and names of members. Left to right, they are, bottom row: Ezra Phipp, drum major; David Steadman, Donald Wheeler, Homer Metzger, Claude Emmerson and Albert Saffell. Second row: Albert McCortie, Heber Foster, Frank Vincent, Don Allen, Cortie Brown, Fred Ling and Fred Riley. Third row: Archie Merchant, Jess Grover, Rollin Steadman (the director's son), Nile Davis, Vern Kidder and Clarence Harrison. Fourth row: Lyman Peck, Bus Hoag, unidentified, Phil Miller, Bryan Taylor, Edezel Bricker and Frank Richmond.
