Description:
Without fanfare or ceremony, Battle Creek's No. 4 fire station went out of service on Dec. 31, 1982, ending a nearly 80-year era. The Enquirer and News reported in its Jan. 4, 1983, edition that "just hours before the merger of the city and Battle Creek Township became effective, the crew on duty moved its rig to the former No. 1 Battle Creek Township Fire Station on South 20th Street, which was renamed No. 4." The old station was converted to a storage shed. Although preserved, it would be more than three decades before new owners would redevelop the Victorian-style turreted building.
