Description:
The future of Highland Junior High, part of Lakeview School District, was up for debate in late 1981. The district would eventually decided to sell the building at 300 Highland Ave. to Jewel Food Stores for $1 million, initiating the consolidation of students in Woodrow Junior High School in the 1983-84 school year. The Enquirer and News reported the decision on June 29, 1982, the same day that Lakeview laid off 21 teachers. The Jewel-Osco supermarket would close in 1994, replaced on the same site by the Lakeview's Felpausch Food Center.
