Description:
The Bijou Theatre, Battle Creek's last downtown, first-run movie theater, closed after the final showing of the movie "Deadly Blessing" on Aug. 20, 1981. According to a Aug. 18, 1981, story by Enquirer and News reporter Stan Kaufman, the Bijou billed some of the greatest names in show business at the height of vaudeville. "Among those who trooped across the boards of the stage were Fred Allen, Jack Benny, the Marx Brothers, Joe E. Brown, Walter Winchell, Chic Sales, Marie Dressler, Buster Keaton, Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians, and Blackstone the Great."
