Description:
The Hunter Street Grocery, built around 1885, was the area's oldest neighborhood food store when this photo was published in the Nov. 14, 1976, Enquirer and News. The 1970s saw the steady demise of the neighborhood grocery. Enquirer and News reporter Stan Kaufman, who wrote the "Down to Business" column for the paper, noted that the "surviving 'Big 3' of the grocers apparently will be Cut Rate, Kroger and Meijer."
