Arnold House being torn down, 1936. This notorious rooming house was built by Adam C. Arnold c. 1875. From the Battle Creek Moon, February 8, 1895: "After a time Arnold erected the building on South Jefferson street, adjoining the C. & G. T. depot, and opened a hotel, now called the Watkins house. Here it was that a great many evil
deeds were done, and the name Arnold Hotel became a synonym for all that was bad. It was while here that his son George formed his habit for drinking, that led to his ruination..."
