Caption on front: 50 Years Ago Today From the Nightly Moon of March 8, 1880. The council ordered lamp posts established at the corner of North and Poplar avenues and at the corner of Jackson and McCamly streets. Ex-Chief Mason submitted his annual report. During 1879 there were 18 fires; losses $3,200, mostly covered by insurance. Chief Whitcomb reported that the steamer is unsafe. D. C. Sanborn, the dog fancier, received from England a setter dog of royal blood, for which he paid over $1,000. Miss Cora Keeney, of Grand Rapids, is visiting here. Geo. Buckley, of the Tribune, has gone to Texas on a pleasure trip.
