dc.description Color brochure showing the office building and factory at the Kellogg Toasted Cornflake company. The Kellogg Toasted Cornflake Company was founded in 1906 by W. K. Kellogg, using a process developed at the Battle Creek Sanitarium of soaking grain and then rolling and baking it to provide a thin, toasted flake which was marketed as a healthy alternative breakfast food. Caption on inside: Kellogg Toasted Corn Flake Co. Originators of Toasted Corn Flakes. (Organized in 1906) The plant now contains nearly ten acres of floor space. it is built of reinforced concrete, entirely fireproof. Nearly one thousand persons are given employment. During the greater part of the year three shifts of eight hours each are necessary to produce the required quantity of Kellogg's ready-to-eat cereal foods. Every package of food now leaving the Kellogg Kitchens is Waxtite, guaranteeing to deliver the contents - anywhere, at any time - as fresh and crisp as the day they leave our ovens. There are more of Kellogg's Toasted Corn Flakes consumed than any other package food ever marketed. The equivalent of 10,000 bushels of white southern corn is used daily in manufacturing Kellogg's Toasted Corn Flakes. The daily capacity is 10,000 cases of 36 packages each. The shipping capacity is 20 cars per day. Millions of packages of Kellogg's Toasted Wheat Biscuits, Kellogg's Toasted Wheat Flakes, Kellogg's Krumbles and other ready-to-eat cereal food successes are made in various departments of this large factory. Annually more than 15,000 tons of paper are required to make cartons and containers for packing the food. The main administration building, located near the factory building, is pronounced one of the most attractive in America. Features of the factory building are a magnificent assembly and demonstration room, restaurants for office and factory employees conducted on the co-operative plan, a completely equipped emergency hospital, shower baths and other conveniences. The Company maintains nineteen branch offices. en_US
