Caption on front: [photo of Kistler Resort] This home on the west side of the lake off Beadle Lake Road is considered to be the oldest house built on Beadle Lake, its owner, Julie Gunning, is interested in learning all she can about the history of the property. Call her at xxx-xxxx Owner Seeks memorabilia, history of first house on Beadle Lake Julie Gunning has purchased what she believes to be the oldest house built on Beadle Lake and is interested in learning all she can about its history. From what she has been able to piece together so far, the house is over 100 years old, built on the west side of the lake off what is now Beadle Lake Road. William "Fred" Kistler purchased the Kistler homestead in 1922 from his father, Jacob Kistler (who brought the property in 1865), transformed it into a modern dairy farm, and in 1928, built a dance hall. Charles E. Kistler started a small business on the property, opening a store, and the site eventually become one of the most popular resorts in southern Michigan in the early 1900;s. Charles was the first to keep boats and built a boat-building shop down by the lake. The area included the Beadle, Michigan, Post Office (1900's), restaurant and hotel at McCarthy's, railway stop, grist mill, ice house, gas station. Ray McCarthy purchased the property in 1942 and built a dance hall across the road, which was very active until 1969. A public beach was closed in 1954. Julie is interested in filling in the history of the home and property, being able to see and/or copy and old photographs or artifacts that might be available, or just talking with people who remember the history of the property.
