Plain postcard sent from Fort Custer, c. 1942.
Written on front: Saturday morn: Hello Alf. I get my second shot today at 11:00. I feel just like a seasoned soldier already and haven't even had my basic training. I understand that starting next month we get $42- a month. Have you read anything in a paper to that effect. I don't want to get all worked up for nothing. We had a half inch of snow here last nite. I hope that is the last. I wrote to Bill Clark the other nite. That old so and so had better answer or he'll have "Hail Columbia" on his hands. A fellow went batty yesterday. he jumped through a second story window. Cut his throat quite badly. "Chuck." Pvt. Chas E. Schroeder Fort Custer Battle Creek, Mich. Co. Q. 1084 RRC
