Description:
Color postcard showing the Hart Hotel building on the northwest corner of West Van Buren and North Washington streets, c. 1951. Opened in June, 1930, as a competitor to the Post Tavern as the W. K. Kellogg Hotel, it also housed the headquarters of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation beginning in December, 1931. The hotel was purchased by Thomas Hart in 1937 and changed its name to the "Hart Hotel" in 1938. After changing hands several times and brief use as an alternative sentencing program, the building was sold to the Scientology organization in 2001 with intent to use it for their program.
