Home was located on 35th Street just north of M-96. The home was demolished in 1956, but there is a stone monument there today. Caption on front: Gen. Shafter's Birthplace, near Battle Creek, Mich. Written on back: 6-2-1908 Dear Lena: I hope this finds you better & will write tomorrow eve. Am feeling fine myself. B.C. 1; Saginaw 10 in today. With heaps of love to you & brothers also friends.
