dc.description Postcard showing a clipping from the Battle Creek Enquirer, November, 2008 Caption on front: Out of our Past 100 years ago today, 1908: As another indication of returning prosperity to Battle Creek comes the announcement that the employees of the American Steam Pump Co. will return to full time today. For nearly 13 months this big institution has been in operation only five days a week, but closing up Saturday and Sunday, giving the men a two-day holiday every week instead of one. "We have never laid any of our regular men off," said Robert Wilder, general superintendent of the plant. "We have kept most of our old employees at work, only they have been putting in short time. During the last few weeks, however, we have put on a score or more men as we found places for them." Historical information is provided by local and family history librarian George Livingston of Willard Library. en_US
