Description:
Joseph Smith established the Battle Creek Bakery in this building on West Michigan Avenue in 1880, soon entering the health food business while Battle Creek was still known as the "Queen City." Among his lines were Core-o-la, pure gluten, cracker meal, caramel coffee, oatmeal and graham biscuits, lemon cream biscuits, ginger snaps and many other items. The business prospered for more than 25 years. A number of enterprises occupied the building thereafter, particularly auto sales. The building was razed in June 1948.
