A June 1947 aerial photograph of Battle Creek shows an "airmarker" on the Oliver plant warehouse. The city was one of hundreds that participated in an effort to mark cities after the war. Before the war, 460 communities had been marked to help pilots navigate the sky over Michigan, but the signs had been obliterated after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor for security reasons. |
