dc.description Percy Jones General hospital took over what locals called "the San" in August 1942, but the Sanitarium continued operations in buildings across the street, one of them the former Battle Creek College Library, pictured here in 1943. It was in 1928 that local citizens and students raised $165,508 in one day toward the goal of $250,000 to build the new library. "Looking Back" columnist Amy South wrote in the May 7, 1978, edition of the Enquirer and News that Battle Creek College closed in 1938, its assets transferred to the Race Betterment Foundation, which formally merged with the Battle Creek Sanitarium & Benevolent Association in 1942. The building on Manchester Street was razed in 1978. en_US
