This photograph, taken in about 1924 or 1925, shows the tray room where meals were prepared for patients at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. The trays — laden with bowls, plates, fruit, soup, vegetables and teapots — were very heavy, according to Cecil G. Miller, who provided the photograph and whose wife, Ruby, stands in the center background directly in front of two men near the canopy over the steam table. Meals were served in a vast dining room or carried to individual rooms in the old Sanitarium, now the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center. |
