dc.description | Pfc. Ray Curtiss of Battle Creek, seated on the ambulance radiator in the center of the photograph, was a member of this Michigan ambulance unit in Aachen, Germany, in 1919. The unit, Section 514, served under the command of Col. Percy Jones, after whom the army hospital in Battle Creek was named. The building behind the ambulance was an old German military academy, which unit members used as a barracks. The photographer, George Cowden, later worked for the Jackson Citizen-Press. | en_US |
