Description:
This photograph of unknown origin depicts a street car at the Goguac Lake station in approximately 1905. Street cars, at first pulled by horses, arrived in Battle Creek in 1883. The line was extended to Goguac Lake in 1888 — three years before the lines were electrified. Landowner J.L. Foster donated the right-of-way on his property on Lake Avenue (Capital Avenue Southwest) between Territorial Road and Columbia Avenue. That right-of-way is the reason that there is extra parking for businesses on the south side of Capital Avenue Southwest. The station was atop Parker's Hill, near the site of Pasche's Lakeside restaurant (formerly the Waterfront) off Columbia Ave.
