dc.description The memory of the Flood of 1904, depicted in this photo of the Battle Creek River near he Michigan Central depot, loomed large in local history. More than 800 houses were flooded in the three-day deluge, according to a March 21, 1954, retrospective in the Enquirer and News. Although remarkable for the volume of water, the 1904 was hardly unique. Before the flood control project of 1957 and 1958, Battle Creek experienced severe flooding once every 10 years on average. en_US
