dc.description Three drill-press operators stand at the controls at Duplex Printing Press Co. in this undated photo submitted by mrs. Edwin L. Shick of Charlotte. Founded in 1884 by I.L. Stone to manufacturer the revolutionary Cox printing press, the firm was at one time one of Battle Creek's largest industries. The factory complex eventually covered 12.9 acres from South McCamly Street to South Washington Avenue, employed hundreds of Battle Creek men and women for more than 50 years and sold presses worldwide. In 1947, Duplex merged with Goss Printing Press Co. Local operations ceased in 1951. en_US
