dc.description |
Nathaniel Barney arrived in town in March 1833 and built near the confluence of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo rivers what would be the first of three taverns, this being the third at 1283 W. Michigan Ave. According to a Dec. 4, 1984, article in the Battle Creek Enquirer, it was built from trees cut from the woods surrounding the site. Barney with is son-in-law Ezra Convis were among the original proprietors in Battle Creek, according to an article in the May 26, 1875, Battle Creek Journal. |
