dc.description The Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church is home to the fourth oldest AME congregation in Michigan and was the second black church established in Battle Creek. Founded in 1855, the church was led by Elder James L. Brown and his wife, Radley. Members held services in their homes until purchasing the current location at 364 W. Van Buren St. in 1867. The church was listed on the state Register of Historic Sites in November 1991. en_US
