dc.description The Emmett Street Missionary Church had four name changes and two denominational changes by the time it built this church at 552 E. Emmett St. in 1948. It was founded as the Union Gospel Mission Church at 70 Capital Ave. SW in 1911. During moves to homes at West Jackson and Madison streets, and then a return to the Capital Avenue address, it went by Mennonite Mission, Union Gospel Mission and Mennonite Brothers in Christ. A brief history was printed in the July 7, 1973, Enquirer and News. en_US
