dc.description Demolition of the old Consumers Power steam plant on West Jackson Street near Capital Avenue Southwest in Battle Creek got under way in August 1970. Termed by Consumers as "beyond repair, a money loser and an air polluter," the plant closed in June after 42 years of operation. The city would purchase the site for additional parking for about $72,000. en_US
