dc.description The discovery of termites at the YWCA building on Capital Avenue Northeast alarmed local leaders in 1948, prompting the Enquirer and News headline "Termites feasting on YWCA building" in the May 15 edition and reports of extensive damage. The alarm was downgraded a week later, however, with repairs estimated in the range of a few hundred dollars. I.L. Stone and his family in 1913 offered $50,000 for the construction of a YWCA as a memorial to Stone's wife, Cordelia. The cornerstone of the building was laid in 1917, and the building dedicated on Feb. 25, 1918. The building closed after the merger of the YWCA and YMCA in 1973, and in 1975 was renamed the Miller-Stone Building and turned over the Battle Creek Public Schools. en_US
