School Building No. 1, also referred to as the Central School Building, was three stories high with a slate roof and cost $83,000 to build in 1871. It had a capacity of 864 students from all grades and was on the southwest corner of McCamly and Champion streets. After construction of the new Battle Creek Central High School building in 1908, the building housed the district's junior high school until the construction of the W.K. Kellogg Junior High School in 1931-34 and the old Central building was razed. |
