dc.description Built in 1893, the old Fire Station No. 1 on West Jackson served Battle Creek for nearly 80 years before it was razed in 1972. At the time of this photograph in 1896, the station's three bays and arched doorways housed steam pumpers and hook-and-ladder wagons as well as the draft horses that pulled them. en_US
