An unpublished photo of Goodwill Industries store, circa 1980, at 373 W. Michigan Ave. In 1980, the Battle Creek affiliate was facing financial challenges — among them a $20,000 tax debt — that contributed to a decision to cut 75 employees of what it called rehabilitation-through-work programs. Those that remained received half-pay for three weeks while the charity caught up on tax bills. |
