dc.description	A Battle Creek landmark since 1869, the octagon house at 95 E. Main St., was razed to make way for a county building in July 1974. The home was built by Lyman Pittee as his personal residence. Pittee, for whom Pittee Street is named, built many of the city's large old homes, among them the future Royal Funeral Home on Upton Avenue. The July 16, 1974, Enquirer and News reported that Pittee chose the octagon shape because he saw strength in the eight-sided design and because he had wearied of conventional designs. Pittee died in 1889.	en_US
