dc.description The Penn Central Transportation Co. — its cars pictured here at the Hinman Yard adjacent to the Kellogg Co. plant on Oct. 14, 1973 — served 23 manufacturers in the Battle Creek area. The local terminal also carried freight from Marshall, Augusta and Albion. Within a few years, the bankrupt railroad would become part of the court-supervised consolidation that created Conrail. en_US
