dc.description Rain seeping into the Riverside Insurance Co. at 110 W. Michigan Ave. brought out workers to remove the aluminum facade to patch leaks. The building had been extensively remodeled in 1967 "to bring a new vitality to the west end of the central business area," according to Feb. 16, 1969, article in the Battle Creek Enquirer. Insurance was big business in Battle Creek at the time. Riverside and Wolverine Insurance Co., both subsidiaries of Transamerica Insurance Group, were headquartered in Battle Creek. Also based in Battle Creek was Premier Insurance Co. The insurance industry employed about 450 Battle Creek residents, who shared a 1968 payroll that exceeded $3 million, the newspaper reported. en_US
