By 1970, the plans to convert Michigan Avenue to a pedestrian mall were taking shape. When this photo was taken, city leaders — the most influential may have been commercial photographer Kermit Krum, who began advocating for the mall as early as 1968 — were calling the concept a "promenade." The Michigan Mall would open on Nov. 29, 1974. |
